Welcome to the Specialist High Skills Major programs page at TASSS!

Who can enroll in a Specialist High Skill Major program?

Any Grade 11 and 12 students who are interested in any of our SHSM focus areas should consider enrolling.  Students in any pathway (apprenticeship, college, university or employment) will find that being part of a SHSM will help them to identify, explore and refine their career goals, and make informed choices about their post-secondary goals.  In order to be eligible, students must have a plan to complete all of the required major courses, including at least two credits of co-op, and all of the mandatory and elective certifications and other requirements.

What does a student need to do to enroll?

Ensure that the courses that the student is taking or planning to take satisfy the SHSM requirements as well as admission requirements for any post-secondary institutions that he or she is considering applying for.  Complete the Specialist High Skills Major Student Application Form (a link to the form is located at the bottom right of the KPRDSB SHSM page, or they can be picked up from the Guidance Office at TASSS) and hand it in to Mrs. Westbroek. 

What happens next?

SHSM students must check their specific SHSM Edsby group regularly to learn about upcoming certification sessions, experiential learning and career exploration opportunities, and reach-ahead activities.  When signing up for experiences and events, students must do so by the appropriate deadlines in order to ensure a spot. Students must also ensure that they make up work missed for any SHSM activities scheduled during class time.
