Co-Op during COVID-19

April 2, 2020.

Welcome back to “school”.  It is important you check Edsby regularly because this is the main source of communication from the school.

As more information comes in from the Ministry of Education, we can start to build a road map for the coming weeks.  We know schools will be closed until May 6 at least.  We are hoping to offer choice for how to proceed with co-op.

Each co-op credit represents 3 hours of work per week.  See chart for where your requirements fall.

1 credit

3 hours of work per week

2 credit

6 hours of work per week

3 credit

9 hours of work per week

4 credit

12 hours of work per week

Week 1 – Starts Apr 6

Some of you may be responsible for “jobs” at home and we are thinking these jobs can translate into co-op hours.  You need to have a serious conversation with your family and determine how you will make this happen.  We can suggest things like household chores, outside work, caring for siblings or helping with the family business; but you need to talk with your parents/guardians over the specifics.  Your parent/guardian will become your employer and they will be required to verify the hours you work.  We would continue to use Hour Republic and we would add them as another employer under your profile.

Next step

  1. Please have a conversation with the people in your world and determine if Week 1 as outlined above is possible for you.
  2. Once you have decided please email your teacher through Edsby message or email.
  3. Include your parent’s name, phone # and email address (this is for Hour Republic)
  4. We are hoping that you can have this to us by 2:35pm Monday April 6th

Weeks 2-4

As the time progresses, other options may become available such as:

Online Assignments

This option will revolve around assignments.  Somemay be online through My BluePrint or on D2L or Google Classroom.  The amount you complete will be based on the number of credits you require.

Online Certification

We are researching what certification we can offer to you as part of the Co-op experience.

Combo

A combination of Option 1 (jobs) and Option 2 (assignments).  This may vary week to week as well.

Finally

This is all new to everyone.  Please reach out to your Co-op teacher if you have any questions or concerns.  Make sure that your parents also have access to Edsby so that they are able to stay informed and can reach out if needed.  Stay safe and stay at home!
